Dateline: Jan 11, 2012 Yesterday our driver was assigned a delivery for a state agency that has a once a month deliveries to all of the city halls in California. Did you know that we provide overnight delivery all over southern California? When he was in the city of Ventura he noticed the Olivas Adobe. This was designated state historical park #115 in 1974. It is an adobe built in 1841 by Raymundo Olivas. The adobe is fully furnished with period furnishings including sewing room and parlor. One odd aspect of the home is that all rooms is that there no interior hallways to enter or exit any room one use the positioned along the exterior wall of each room. In 1849 he added a second story to make it the only 2 story building in the area. Outside there is a pit for the creation of adobe, herb garden, and a visitors center that has a video presentation and artifacts.
Olivas received, this Land Grant in recognition of his service at the Presidio of Santa Barbara It is approximately 2,250 acres from Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado in1841, which he named Rancho San Miguel. The land had originally been part of the Mission San Buenaventura.
He and wife Dona Theodora and their 21 children lived here until 1899. This period was known for lavish fiestas lasting many days and the hospitality shown to travelers.
It later became part of the Fleishman’s’ holdings (of yeast and margarine fame), and it was he who donated the land and the house to the City of Ventura. This is also an amazing horticultural site that has wonders such as, the oldest living fuchsia plants in the world (1898), an historical herb garden, a rose garden maintained by the Master Gardeners group, and numerous flowering specimens that were planted in the 1920′s.
On a sad note, Dona Teodora was brutally murdered by a band a marauding thieves. Her spirit is said to wander about the balcony, gardens, living room and kitchen. Especially the kitchen! One guest taking a “ghost tour” was walking from the kitchen through a small pantry to the outside and reported “It was almost like an icy hand was holding you back from exiting. Very scary! For one brief moment I thought I wasn’t going to be able to get out of that room” You can go on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxaRs0S-Wp4 to see more.
Dateline : Yesterday our driver was assigned a delivery for a lawyer who happened to have his office on Foothill Blvd in Upland CA.. He mentioned that is the same road as Route 66. I got to thinking about the fact that my whole life I have lived on or near *The Mother Road*.This highway of dreams cuts a swath from Chicago to Santa Monica CA. When you think back there so many references in books, movies and our lives. There even once was a TV show called “Route 66”.
Did you or your kids ever ride the Carrousel at the Santa Monica Pier? Housed in the historic hippodrome rebuilt in 1990. This Carrousel was first built in 1909 and with a few hiccups is still in operation. It has been beautifully restored and It is delight to behold. You can fish off of the pier. Lunch on the pier they have “Fair/ Carnival Food like great funnel cakes. Take a ride the rollercoaster. Perhaps best not in that order. Memories of The Historic Route 66 is filled with adventures, fantasy and romance.
Dateline :04/05/2011 Yesterday our driver told us about his Same Day Delivery to Las Vegas he had a special item for the the aquarium at the Silverton Casino. This may be the oddest family attraction in Sin City, the Silverton Casino in Las Vegas, is employing mermaids to swim in its 117,000-gallon saltwater aquarium of tropical fish.
The casino’s Mermaid Lounge, an adults-only bar, has a big window that looks into the aquarium. But an even bigger window is on the other side, in a public space outside the casino and just down a hall from the Bass Pro Shop. It’s proven to be a popular spot with families, and the casino has obliged by scheduling daily feeding shows and mermaid visiting hours several days a week.
The mermaids move gracefully under water, interacting with the 4,000 fish, even stingrays, and three species of sharks. The mermaids perform a synchronized swimming show With individual mermaids hanging out at the family window four days a week, during three shifts spaced with rest breaks. Kids get the chance to give high-fives through the glass or blow kisses or play peekaboo; adults can admire the mermaid’s underwater back flips or ability to spin in a cocoon of bubbles. The underwater ladies have been such a hit that Silverton may expand the aquarium’s repertoire. An appearance by subaqueous Santa and his elves proved popular over the holidays

Top things to consider when choosing a Courier Service for your Bank or Credit Union are:
1. Reliability and Trust.
These can be hard to quantify if you have no experience with the courier. One way to evaluate the courier is to use them put the word out that anyone who needs a same day delivery or special delivery call a potential courier and have them do it. Then you can evaluate how they answer the phone, how does the driver look, is the pickup and delivery on time, does the courier company call to confirm delivery and how did the overall experience go. Be sure to call a week after the delivery and ask that they send you a POD (Proof of Delivery) this way you can see if they still care when you are not actually placing an order and how fast do you get the POD. Ask that the POD be emailed to you this way you make sure they are using up to date technology you would be surprised how many delivery companies are not. This can be a drawback when it comes to clear communication and Tracking.
Call the person at another local bank who holds you position and ask them who they use and who they used in the past and why they don’t use them now. Any potential courier service that is doing work for a bank should have a good and close relationship with their bank customers that would lend them to giving you a referral to call or email. Ask your potential delivery company for referrals of banks that do not use them anymore, these are great because the bank is more likely to be honest. Also ask for a few referrals from others customers in other lines of work especially the customers who use their medical courier service as they will have similar needs in regards to reliability and privacy.
Good Questions to Ask to Check for Reliability and Trust:
Ask to see a copy of their employee manual / handbook (be sure it includes their dress code)
Ask them about their Emergency Procedures (How do they handle being evacuated from their office? Do they have a secure place to store your items in case of disaster?)
What security policies regarding your banks information do they have.
Can they provide proof that their drivers are enrolled in a DMV pull? (So you know whether the courier services under consideration is reviewing driver’s driving records)
If drivers are using their own vehicles on deliveries: Does the company have a signed agreement with the drivers that will allow the company to access the vehicle if it is impounded or seized or in an accident. (Usually it will look like a lease agreement between the Delivery Company and the Driver.)
Ask to see their financial records or details on the Accounts Payable to make sure they are using employees so they are not Owner / Operators.
Another way to check for use of Owner / Operators is to ask to see their last couple of years 1096 which sums up the 1099’s they send out. If they have a lot of these made out to People and no companies then you can be sure they are using a lot of owner operators.
